Carolyn E. Fota

Defense Technical Information Center (DoD), Program Analyst

Carolyn Fota’s legs and arms were wrapped in bandages while the rest of her body was covered with 4×4 bandages when she asked the dermatologist “Am I that poor SOB who has Pemphigus or Pemphigoid?” A few days later, the retired U.S. Army Medical Service Officer found out she had Bullous Pemphigoid. Carolyn’s story is about awareness, treatment, self-care & management, working with her care team, and eventually advocating for rare diseases on Capitol Hill.
